I bought my tan steering wheel from ebay and they got a airbag from a junk yard. Everything worked and matched perfectly.

u need 01-03 rx300 airbag because it is single stage. the 04sc bag will work but the xplosive unit is dual stage. but theres a possibility u can swap over your exisiting explosive unit and it will work.

I know it is an OLD post, However, I should say THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT POST AND PICTURES.

Any one have ever changed / replaced the passenger air bag for GS 300 / 400 for the years 1998-2005?

Your write up saved the day! I made the mistake of assuming that with the 98-00 & 01-05 facelift that the airbag was part of the change but apparently they held off until 02. Anyways, the stage 2 bag bolted right up into my old 01 wheel and my stage 1 bag fit into my new wheel. Now to convert the rest of the trim pieces to cherry wood. thanks again OP.

Just to be clear?
98-00 is "version 1" of the actual wheel with a matching single stage airbag/horn assembly with a non chrome emblem. Options are wood inlays, shift buttons and/or radio controls.
01 "version 2" of the wheel with matching single stage airbag/horn assembly with a chrome emblem. Shift buttons only available on 300 now, radio controls on any? and the wood inlays are standard on 430.
02-05 is same as above except it is a dual stage airbag.

Is this the exact same pattern for an Aristo?

I just ordered an Aristo e-shift wood trim wheel so I'll let you know if it's the same pattern.
I also plan on pulling the possible necessary wiring from a junkyard GS4 w/e shift (I grabbed the 4 speed shift assembly and gauge cluster since I want the indicator lights to match) so hopefully it all works out

Were you able to get e-shift work in your car ?
