75,000 Check-up $160 at Lexus....What will get done for free? What costs extra?
I need an oil change, so I called Lexus and I haven't had a thorough tune-up for about 2+ years and I am at 72k, so they suggested the 75k tune-up.
My car is a 2002 GS300 Sport Design. 72k miles. All original suspension. Original brakes. Brake pads are 2yrs old.
I have some issues I have been planning on getting looked at and was wondering if these were included and if not can I get them worked into the tune-up.
1. Wobbling/Shaking of the steering wheel when I brake at high speeds (60mph +)
2. Clicking in my steering wheel when I turn at slow speeds. It doesn't happen all the time, but will happen sometimes when I turn the wheel a lot (ex. When parking or hard turns in a parking garage)
3. Creaking/Squeaking noise in the rear right axle area when I hit a bump going slow (20mph and under) The noise goes in the rhythm of the bump. Not too loud and not high pitched.
I didn't ask about 1 and 3, but I was told it would be $120 alone just to analyze the problem. Seems a little steep.
Just wondering what I should expect to get done at this tune-up and if I can squeeze in Lexus checking these problems for free.
Thanks

The $120.00 is for diag. only.
!. Probably need to resurface the rotors
2.This will be the hardest one and how much do you want to spend money on the little noise.
3.Probably worn out shock.

Thanks for your replies. My Lexus service experience was less than ideal. I essentially paid $190 for an oil change and cabin filter. They claimed they couldn't find my lug key in my bag of lug nuts therefore couldn't get my wheels off and couldn't do any investigative work on my brakes or the clicking noise or the creaking noise. I took their word for it and figured they key was somewhere in the car and I didn't have time to look since they were closing. It turned out the key was in the bag the whole time, so I am seriously pissed with them. The shirt and tie guy I talked with in the service area office promised to do the checks for free and then they got lazy. They finished by doing a half *** job cleaning my car before giving it back to me.
So I am done with them and going to bring my car to my mechanic. Decided to be proactive and went out and bought the parts I believe will need replacement based on all the posts I have read.
I just purchased from Auto Parts Warehouse with free shipping a new set of:
Brembo front and rear rotors for $240
EBC GreenStuff Brake Pads Sets F&R for $131
Sankei Tie Rod End Tie Rod End Driver and Passenger $86
Karlyn Ball Joint Ball Joint Driver and Passenger $110
I am going to give it to my mechanic and have him go over the car and replace what is needed and I'll return what I don't need to replace. Done with Lexus service for good.
