Default Replaced fuel filter, now car wont start

2001 GS430. Just replaced the fuel filter, put everything back together, that car cranks but doesnt start. The fuel pump makes noise when ignition is turned on, so I assume its working properly. What are my possibilities?

Yeah, took everything apart twice, the pump looks good.

What the best way to find out for sure that the pump is working?

I've had this happen before. They might have given you the wrong filter. In 2000 the filter assemblies changed so i your car was made in the late part of 2000 and not 2001 than you use a different filter that other GS430s. Attempt to reinstall the old filter and see if it works if it does they gave you the wrong filter. If they gave you the wrong filter what happens is that when you attempt to start the car, the fuel pump backs out o the filter so the gas isnt flowing down the lines but instead just getting spit back into the tank.

and where is the fuel filter on the 99 gs300s?

i went to the dealership and they said they never did one before. it was attached to the fuel pump, and sold the unit together.

i was hoping he was just kidding...

Doesn't it take awhile for the fuel to travel through? Just throwing some ideas out.

If the pump works, then it must be the filter is not installed correctly.

Completely forgot to update this one... We got the car started the following day.

What happened was, there is a rubber o-ring on the old filter. The new filter didnt come with that ring and we overlooked it. Took that ring from the old filter, put it on the new filter, and the car started right up.

And just for everyone's info, the fuel filter replacement job is not difficult, but very stinky. Do it in a well ventilated area and have a bunch of disposable towels ready.

How bad/good was the filter you removed? Do you recommend members to change or forgo it?
