It is kinda strange, I've wondered why they switched it up like that as well.

Yeah, I think it's odd that in 98-00 only 400's had it but then in 01-05 only 300's had it. At first I thought all 01's+ had it but someone corrected me recently.

+1, Anybody who wants triptronic can trade me their 430. Anyways I think the OP's question is WHY it didnt come with it. It makes no sense to put triptronic on te slower GS

I think it had something to do with insurance classification.

I actually wouldn't. I do a lot of spirited driving in the mountains and Appalachian foothills and E-shift, while not completely ideal, is better than nothing and really makes that type of driving easier and more fun.

No E-Shift on the 430 was probably 20% of the reason I didn't buy one in the first place.

Hahaha indeed

I was surprised at how insignificant the difference in insurance cost was- like $110 a year more for a 430. Not bad.

i promise, even though the steering wheel controls are awesome (in fact i dont recall EVER touching my radio except setting the stations, i just use my controls) i would HAPPILY give them up for tiptronics

thats funny micheal mine was the opposite. when i was gs shopping i just wanted a gs300 but it was mid 250's for a gs300 for me, 200 for a gs400 and like 120 for the gs430. not its like 80....crazy weird. only thing we could come up with is that, we assume, if you have a car that was that much more than a gs300 then you would drive it safer

I was not aware that the tiptronic was not offered. I never use mine, so if I lost it I don't think I'd care. It's in a retarded place anyways. Should have been on the shifter like almost all cars, or paddles. No that crappy button nonsense.

For the people that thinks the tiptronic button's are wack, try driving one with a valve body upgrade. I'll bring a smile to your face on winding curvy roads. Heck, I'd invite you to come up to the Dragon and ride with me in my GS300. It'll either bring a grin to your face or tears will roll down on the side of your face...
