id do it just to be different but just remember you are going from a 3.0 to a 2.5, but again it would just be cool to say its a 1jz.. GL on what you do!

I don't think this would be any cheaper. You might save a few bucks on the engine, then you need an auto trans. (or manual swap, which there goes any money you might have saved on buying the 1J) The you need to get mounts to put in in the car right, then you need to wire the engine up to make it work, then you need to upgrade the turbos because the are not as good as the VVTi turbos, (or go single, more money out the door.) I think it would actually cost more to do this swap and you would have to do more to get the same result as just doing the 2JZ VVTi to start.

You have to see if the engine will sit right in or do you need to change motor mounts. Or do any other mod to make the engine sit right.

I think it would be cool to see a 1JZ on a 2 gen GS, but with all the mod that you will have to do, just to make it work, it's going to come out the same as buying a 2JZ.

Also these cars are more heavier than the MKIII supra.

The 1JZ swap would take many more modifications and fabrication. It will indeed cost you much more money and time to do it. I personally would not waste my time but if you are really wanting to do this, I see why not. It is something different. But SlvrGS300 pretty much nailed it on the head, he makes some valid points. Not to mention the wiring would be a pain in the ***, because 1JZ is not VVT-I.

in the end you may spend close to the amount needed for the 2j swap but its your car and do what makes you happy. theres a couple 1gs with 1jz's and the one i seen locally doesnt seem to be lacking from the smaller displacement

id say go for it!! theres no reason for a 1jz not to work in to a 2gs chassis and if skeptical then go with the newer block vvti 1jz so motor mounts definately lines up to your chassis with no modification needed..........make sure everything is purchased with each motor respectively.......cost of 1jzgte as opposed to 2jzgte or na-t kit would still be a lot cheaper and make a hell of a reliable boosted car

I've seen a 1JZGTE in a JZA80 so I'm sure it'll fit...but the guy who had that done also owned a JZX90 previously and just got a NA 80.

Not sure what the price difference between the 1JZ and 2JZ are, but considering engine mounts, transmission, wiring, etc, you may want to stick with the tried and proven 2JZ.

I love cars with originality but that's just my 2 cents.
