It doesn't look like it though. Degrease the engine completely then check it again..To me it look like just dirty...but Look can be deceiving...

Suggest you clean that section. If the stain comes back, then you have a leak

I have wiped it and over a few months time it started to build up again. Oil levels haven't noticeably changed at all. So I was assuming it was just some seepage.

get some dye from toyota and drop in there. use a black light and you will know exactly what is going on.

If it's really the valve covers, I think it would leak around the other side also. It also could be your cam seals. Hope not.

If that's the case then I'm frustrated, because when I took my car in for the timing belt service at Lexus 17K miles ago, there was a spot there, and they didn't pick up on it. I have wiped it and a few months later it comes back but no noticeable oil loss.

I wouldn't be to concerned abour the cam seal having never seen a 3uzfe have to replace them. I would remove the timing belt inspection cover that is placed over that cam gear and check underneath the gear, this will give you a for sure answer if it is leaking or not. My guess is that it is a valve cover, in order for the oil to show up where is on your motor, it would have to go past the belt, out the rubber seal and accumulate. You would think you would see oil more places than just one little spot.

I would pray to the Lexus gods it's a valve cover gasket and not a cam seal or the VVTi. I have a 1UZ but I just had an EPIC oil leak not too long ago and I had a small leak around there too. The check oil light flashed one day, pulled over, and went straight to toyota.

turned out to be a oil leak around where yours is but more prominent around the back. I went ahead and had them do the valve cover gasket, cam seals, front main seal, timing belt, serpentine belt, and i forget what else.

Keep an eye on your oil level and I hope you wont have to go through what I did!!
