Default Undercarriage cover

who here doesn't use the undercarriage engine cover on their cars? what are the real benefits of having this on, just to protect from water and debris right? at this moment mine is off the car, is really a PITA to remove for oil changes etc... opinions please

im pretty sure Lexus put it there for a reason, one to protect it from many debris like you said.

on my old car, a honda civic, when i had mine off for a few weeks, when it rained hard, because my car was quite low, the water would cause my speedometer to stop working. After a day or two to dry off, it would work again so i guess its better to have it on.

Someone had taken it off the SC400 I used to own and during the summer, the cabin would get hot as hell when driving on the highway. Found a used one, put it on, problem solved.

Not only for protection, but aerodynamics too. Notice how it slants downward from the bumper to the subframe. Without it, you're creating drag underneath your car. Mine is kind of messed up because I ran over a tire (unavoidable). I'm in the process of replacing mine.

i use it
agree it protects the undercarriage (part of it) from the elements.
i'd rather be scraping/hitting that plastic pos than whatever is directly above it

cliffnotes: bro's friends are excessively large, they get into car, suspension sags, driver goes over dips, suspension bottoms out, thus lower cover hit the ground.

handoverfi, how low is your car now? at my lowered stance, i seldomly scrape the cover (GSTEG has seen how low my car was). anyway, i suggest retaining the cover for protective/preventive purposes just my 2 cents

alot of it is for aerodynamics........but used for some protection too. it is a minor inconvience for a oil change but thats ok even though some yahoo before me stripped a bolt on the skidplate (gotta offer some protection if they named it a skidplate right?)

As mentioned above it is there to keep water and dirt out and also provide better aerodynamics. If you have ever looked under a Dodge Viper they are fully covered front to back with these "plates" as it smooths airflow etc....In other words, you want it there.
