Default DIY 01+ Chrome grill *With a twist*

I got off work early today and found myself super bored.. So I decided what the hell -- I do that DIY chrome grill thingy .. Ha! So I went to the auto parts store got some stripper, got home and went to town...I used the kind in a spray can and applied about 3 coats and used a razor blade for the hard reach parts.. The result was an extra blingy super chrome grill... I absolutely hated it! It was honestly to much for me.. Heres a pic

another

So I left it on and used the metality that I will get use to it... But the more places I went the more I looked at it.. and the more I was disgusted with it.. So I went to the store and bought some 3m blue painters tape and some krylon satin black paint. I decided I was going to tape up around the outer edges where it was originally chrome and just paint the inside...

Make sure you tape it as straight as possible because it will show if its crooked and people will call you a loser

All taped up and ready for paint..

C-ya DIY chrome! first coats of satin black

5 or 6 coats later... satiny goodness!

The new hotness... No grill at all! Ha!

Let it dry completely remove tape and put the magical "L" back in and here she is!

IMO I think its a mix of the 98-00 color with the new 01+ design .. This would also be and awesome option for anyone who messed up there diy and just wants to cover it up.. I am so happy with the way it looks now though.. thanks for looking everyone!

I would have tried to find another colour to try to colour match it with your wheels!

Well, the original color of the 01 and up grill matched my wheels perfectly... butttt Im selling my wheels in the wheels classifieds as we speak .. I will most likely be going with a black wheel with a polished lip

I like it, should flow well with black wheels. Looks good with the silver!

I DIY chromed just the front of the fins on my 99 grill, perfect level of bling for me with my black car and chrome wheels.

grill does look good but it looks like it did before you did the DIY, but just a darker color!!

I think im gona respray my grill im tired of looking at all that residue crap on my grill. i used a spray and i used the regular kind you apply with the paint brush. DID NOT TAKE OFF OF IT AT ALL!! im gona redo the DIY and just do the spokes!! But how do you protect the paint from regular car washing and everyday driving? just alot of clear coat???

but nice grill non the lesss!!
