Default If starter goes "click" is the relay doing it's job?

My car takes several attempts to start up. What generally happens is I turn the key and I get one distinct "click" from the starter area. If I repeat this several times the starter will finally function and the car cranks and runs fine. After doing research on this site I've narrowed down the problem to either the starter relay or the starter itself. My main question is if the starter relay is bad or going bad would I even get that "click" to begin with? I'm about to order a starter rebuild kit and tackle replacing the starter but was wondering if I should replace the starter relay as well. I would "think" that I wouldn't get a click at all if the relay was bad but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

Your starter contacts (inside your starter) are worn.

Replace your contacts with new, keep your OE starter and save yourself some money.
