i have literally searched all day, need to know which harness for the nakamichi .....
had a 98 gs300 with pioneer system...wiring diagram was easy to read and installation was easy.
now am trying to hook an eclipse avn unit up to my gs400 with nakamichi and the preparation is kind of crazy.
i cannot for the life of me understand the nakamichi wiring diagram(why didn't they make it simple like the pioneer one?)
Anyways, here is where am stuck before i tear apart the car......
1. I figured out which wires are which in the nakamichi amp which is in the trunk (mostly speaker wires is all u get/need from here) but cannot seem to find an aftermarket harness to plug into it. i bought an 87 toyota harness but it doesn't plug into any plugs coming out of the nakamichi amp. for members with nakamichi systems that upgraded to ana ftermarket unit, what harness/plug did u use for connection at the amp in the trunk?
2. Which aftermarket plug did u nakamichi guys use for the connection behind the headunit (its mainly power, ground and acc. u are getting/need from here). Is it the 87 toyota harness(i have pulled the headunit out so i haven't tested it).
3. Since, i cannot find an illumination wire in the nakamichi wiring diagram, where did most of u tap into for the illumination connection? Or is it somewhere in this wiring diagram?
for the connection behind the headunit in front, since all i need form the stock plug is just power, acc and ground, i don't really think i need an aftermarket harness cos i can just tap into these 3 wires. But for the speaker wires at the amp in the trunk, i want to make it clean without slicing or choping, hence i need an aftermarket plug. So question 1 and 3 are my main concern.
thanks alot
BTW, i searched all day long....

Using an aftermarket head with the Nakamichi system is not a plug-and-play
installation, unfortunately.
There isn't a way to power up the Nakamichi amp in the trunk... at least no
way I could see after an hour of probing and testing with my pal Jerry
(we are both MECP certified 12v installers). It appears that the Nak amp
needs two 12v+ leads to power up, but one is hot the other goes to ground.
Duuring the initial installation, I abandoned the
Nak amp and used deck power to run the speakers. This means you'll lose
the factory sub since there is no way to power it or filter the high
frequencies unless you run a seperate amp. Also, we "toned" the
speaker leads at the amp so we could figure out which wires were which
and then we figured out the wires from the Nak head unit were providing
source signal to the amp. We used these leads and spliced the wires
at the abandoned Nak amp to power the speakers.
For the head unit I could not find a harness that was strictly plug & play.
If I recall correctly I used 1/2 of a Toyota harness for the power/ground/
key hot/illumination leads so I didn't have to splice the OE wire harness.
You'll have to use a separate small amp to power the sub.
At that point you might as well buy a 5-channel amp to power
the speakers and sub, or a 4-channel amp and a mono amp
for the sub.
Then you'll discover what a piece of garbage the OE NAK sub is.
If you haven't done an installation like this before, I would suggest having
a specialty car audio shop do the installation.

i have done this type of installation before.
i just need to know which harness Nakamichi owners used for the connections.
i dont want to splice wires......and the 87 toyota harness does not fit the plugs coming out of nakamichi amp.

But what I'm saying is that there isn't a harness available to do this.
I'd be intersted to hear how you're planning to get the Nak amp to power up.
We ARE trying to help, you're just not listening.

hey
i am bypassing the nakamichi amp totally. i am talking about a harness to plug into the plug (speaker wires) which i pull out of the nakamichi amp.
in other words, i am not looking for a harness to make the nakamichi amp work. just a harness to connect to the plug which i will be removing from the nakamichi amp. i hope its clearer now....
just a plug to avoid me cutting the oem plug..

I re-read your original post and I didn't see any mention of an aftermarket amplifier, so perhaps I assumed you were trying to fire-up the Nak amp.
Anyway, the plugs are all in a different order from normal Toyota stuff,
and as you can see the plugs/connectors are unusual.

oooooo I figured out how to use megaupload haha, go here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SWRSV9PL and just type in that stupid code then download the pdf, it will show you exactly how to hook everything up.

thanks alot jamodeo. i already came across your page on the internet before. But it is not useful for what am looking for.
i am scrapping the nakamichi amp in total and using an Alpine V12 5 channel amp.
the only thing i need up front behind the head unit is the orange plug cos it supplies ground, accessory and power.
what i need is a plug/ harness that will plug into the speaker plugs when i remove them from the nakamichi amp in the trunk. i need a harness so i can avoid taping/splicing into the wires. but i guess no one knows of any harness.
i will just do it how i know how to.
thanks alot anyways...
great write up by the way..
