I've decided not to do this since I'll lose the factory reflector in it. Wish it was as easy as the 98+. Instead I'm going to do a major tune up, valve cover gaskets, timing belt water pump, the whole sha-bang! But maybe I'll get lucky and get my hands on the $1000 01+ red/clear tails 1 day.

Default Now that these tail lights are almost old enough to buy alcohol, they must be cut

This is how it looks when finished

U can see the way i have a nice edge to center the lens on when reattaching.

I am not a fan of the chrome background in clear tails, so I gave mine a quick coat of metallic silver paint.

I got a 10” hacksaw bladed and handle to use it more like a knife, and cut at an angle all the way around,

This ugly piece needs doesn’t belong on my car.

I initially used some silicone glue to attach the lens

After the silicone had set up I used this quick drying plastic epoxy to fill in the small gap left from the saw. It dries and is very close to the original plastic, but dries to quickly to use as initially for reattaching the lens. This stuf was great to spackel the line, then sand the excess and make the cut line vanish.
I tried heating mine up many times and couldn’t get the ancient glue to break loose so I ended up cutting them, and wanted to post my method here .
