You can definitely use for seat tracks, etc. You should also check for loose track or wear (alot of play) cuz the seat takes a lot more punishment than the steering wheel.

Just a hint, to remove the bottom panel, you have to manipulate the joystick steering wheel controller, i.e. have the steering wheel out the most, and then get the bottom panel out

Thanks for the write up. My steering wheel was stuck in the upward position. I used WD 40 for now and it worked great. All I hear is normal motor sound no sqeaking or grinding.

Default Squeaky sc430 steering wheel

Please fix your car at your own risk!

1. go get some general purpose grease from Autozone or wherever. I got a big can for $3 and it says it's used by many Japanese cars...so I figured,

2. take off the 3 bolts thats holding the steering column cover. If you don't know where it's located or how to, just looking around the steering column. two are behind the steering wheel and you will have to turn it to get to it. Lightly take apart the bottom and top cover.

3. start greasing!!
and I recommend some plastic gloves also (like those 100pack for 5bucks one).

the red circle is one of the culprits

close up. grease around it.

Now, get underneath your steering column...and you should see this.

see that small metal part in the middle of the pic?
here's the close up of that middle metal part. grease where it's circled red.

real close up

Now, you're gonna have to "pack" the grease and tilt up/down as you grease to get the grease around that shaft. Do so until the sound goes away.

the finished product, tada
Thanks for the useful help. I will try and let you know if it worked.

Default Great advice which cured my problem

Only one thing to ad.
Make sure the top cover is removed first and put back on last.
Top and bottom snap together.
Steering wheel squeak done.
10 minutes getting the bottom cover off.
(It would not clear the square tilt button.
Stumbled on the solution which was to remove the top cover first, to give more room to maneuver off the bottom cover.)
Greasing took 5 minutes, mostly spent raising and lowering the steering wheel to make sure the grease covered the worm gear and both ends of the shaft.
15 minutes attempting to get the top cover and bottom cover to align.
(Finally figured out that although it was easy to place bottom shaft cover around square tilt button without having top cover on, with the bottom cove in place the top cover metal brackets with the holes to allow the screws to go through and into the plastic screw receiving shafts were hitting those shafts. So top cover needed to be fitted down first. After that it was easy to raise the bottom cover into place to meet the top cover.
Article was great for photos and solution.
Just follow sequence as above.
Now squeak is gone and I need not set any mouse traps.

Bob
