Default Help - GS300 - Argument with Toyota Service Re 60k Service and Spark plug replacement

Just had my 60k done at a toyota dealership and asked them to replace my spark plugs.

The didn't do it and when I call them on it they said the car has iridium plugs and they only need to be done at 120k.

Its an 2002 GS300 and the lexus dealer and the manual says replace the plugs.

Any ideas ? Are they platinum or iridium ?

Thanks!
Peter

I believe they are Iridium. Either DENSO SK20R11 or NGK IFR6A11.

petervb, did they charge you the normal 60k interval price, or did they discount the spark plug portion? If they charged you the normal 60k interval price, then they're just trying to make profit by not changing your plugs.

Mine were changed at 60k. That is what lexus has listed on a 60k service.
U better get a refund for the difference or make them do it.

They didn't charge but they did do the throttle body service so isn't that half or more of the labor taking it off.

So just wondering if I should capatilize on that.

I would suspect the Dealer would be going by the book rate, so I would suspect that the itemized work for changing the spark plugs or cleaning throttle body would cost the same regardless if they did it together or separately. I wouldn't expect a discount for bundling work together from the dealer.

Hello,
This is what my lexus dealer gave me. It shows replace the spark plugs @ 60k.
I know they did mine at that time. And I do believe the service packages are a little cheaper then doing everything seperate.

I never really go into the gs section, but I will say that your spark plugs should still be fine. I know most people would rather have them done at 60k but truth is they are really good plugs and can actually be changed at the same time as your timing belt. Your owners manual has the recommended maintence service posted inside. If anything I'd follow that in regards to months and or miles. Example: You have 1k miles on current oil, but you have had oil in car for 3 months = change oil because it has been in car for 3 months rather than 3k miles.

Dog you drive a Lexus. Take your car to a Lexus dealership instead of a Toyota dealership.
