Worth complaining about?
H Guys,
I just had a scheduled service performed on my 1999 GS300 by a very reputable Lexus dealership. The service was 160,000km (~100,000 miles) and cost me AU$1,000.
Before I took her in for the service, I checked the Service Manual to see what was involved and noticed that one of the items is "Replace Air Conditioning Filter". When I picked the GS up from the dealer, they gave me a debrief about what was done and specifically said "...replaced the ir conditioning filter, etc etc".
When I got home, I decided to have a look to see whether they actually *did* replace the filter and guess what - they've just blown it out using an air compressor (the same thing I do at my dad's panel shop...)
Do you guys think that this is worth making a fuss about? The thing that worries me is that there are a bunch of other thins that they *say* they've done, but how can I really trust them now
I'd appreciate your opinions...

You are right to be upset. Replace means replace with new, not just clean with compressed air. Perhaps the filters are out of stock, in which case you should not be charged for a new part. Instances like this are the reason some states have enacted legislation requiring the shop to provide you with your old parts at your request.

Check your invoice and see if they charged you for the filter. If they did, go back and complain. If they didnt, then all you're really facing is a misunderstanding. But if their service menu says they replace it, and they didnt (and didnt charge you for it), then they just need to change their menu.

Thanks for your responses. The new filter doesn't appear in the parts list, but I mentioned it when talking to the dealer earlier today (I phoned about another matter) and they apologised and said they'll send me one via post (no charge)
Man, this is why I love this car - it's not just a fantastic machine but it's backed-up by amazing customer service. A lot of companies can learn a lot from Lexus about after-sales service...
