Default Bumper reinforcement styrofoam issue?

Hi people.

The US spec GS have this piece of styrofoam inside the front bumper to be used as added safety. The Japanese Aristos don't have that.

So in order for some Japanese Aristo front bumper kits to fit on the US GS300/400/430s, the styrofoam needs to be cut or modified or taken off.

Just wondering, is it legal to do that? Or do we have to keep it? I found a very nice front bumper for the GS, but it doesn't even have the upper bumper part, so I can't use the styrofoam at all.

the styrofoam part you are referring to is the 5-mph bumper.. to resist impacts up to 5 mph and those things are very expensive.. you can expect to pay at least 300 bucks for a new one.. I think it's part of US regulations that there must be one in every car, but I dont think that it is illegal to remove it.. I know alot of cars with aftermarket bodykits that removed that styrofoam part.... Mine is also removed as well to fit in my aftermarket bumper.. I wouldn't recommend that you cut or modify it... you might need it later on when you want to put back your stock bumper

Hi man I bought a Japanese Aero Kit for my GS400 from Erubuni It said I had to take the front renforcment bumper off in order to install it.

but it is not True at all man I kept my front safty on and had to cut a little off from the inside of my bumper to make it fit well.

End result, u dont have to remove the renforcment, and spoiler (Fiber glass) fitted very well and was pleased with the whole issue.
