Default Rough Idle......Water Pump Leak

My 98'GS300 began to idle rough a few days ago. I also noticed that the temp gauge was higher than normal. I checked the coolant and it was low so I filled it. Next day same thing happened. I knew that the coolant had to be leaking but I didn't notice a puddle under the car. I decided to remove the shroud and so get a better look. I started the car and noticed coolant leaking from a small hose attached to the bottom of the water pump. This can't be normal...right? I'm thinking that I need to replace the water pump. Would this cause the rough idling?

Depending on how much coolant you lost, you could have overheated the engine and caused a small head gasket leak, which would explain the rough idle. How many miles on the car? Anything else of importance? Check engine light?

The car has 145,000 miles on it. No check engine light on , but the VCS lights did on come on once. I do need a my car for work, which is about 4 miles away. Haven't driven it since Friday. Can I do more harm if I drive it to work?

Rough idle your car might get over-heated, blow head gasket...check the coolant level, color and check oil color. if the color looked normal, you could drive the car to work. But you need to pay more attention on the engine temp.
