battery light, vsc, abs light on car won't start
guys i really need your help yesterday 9-15-07 i was driving and my battery light came on, good thing i made it home. As I was in my garage, i noticed that when i step on my brake my radio would cut off, and the interior would flicker, i let go and it would kick in again, so I turned the car off. So now the car won't start no more, I end up jumping it and it started up, but the battery light was still on, as I rev the engine, the light would turn off, then when i let off the gas, the light would come on again. I decided to take it around the block, with the light on, I notice that when I rev'ed it I'd hear a little rattle, I drive around more, and when the battery light went off, no rattle when you rev it, I came back to the garage, shut the car off it would'nt start. I decided to take it to autozone to test the battery, found out it was very low on charge, and they said i needed a new one, so I bought a new one and installed it on. The car cranked up fine but the battery light was still on . So today 9-16-07, i drove the car again and not only did the battery light come on but also the Abs,Vsc, and Vsc off light came on, I had a feeling that if i turned off the engine and restart it, it would not crank on, so I waited until i got home, turned the car off, tried to crank it on ....nothing at all, even the telescopic steering wasn't moving at all..I'm really lost, sorry if this sounds all too much, but i really need some of you gs400 guru's to chime in and help me out...any info would be greatly appreciated

i had the same problem i replaced the alternator and that did it but i also notice when i was changing it i saw that the power steering fluid is leaking on to the alternator so that might be the problem. but havent seen a problem anymore after i cleaned up the power steering pump. my guess is someone spilled fluid down to the alternator

Check the battery with the car off with a volt meter. Should be 12+ volts since it is a new battery. Turn the car on , leave running and check again. Should be 14 + volts. If not it could be a connection is not tight or clean, bad ground, alt or belt. How dirty is the alt and does it look like anything was spilled on it? I do my own oil changes on my GS430 and would really have to f up to spill oil on it.

to know whether or not your alternator is bad. start the car up or jump start it. then remove the battery head(one of them).
if the car keeps running, then alternator is okay(but doesn't mean its charging properly though). BUT, if the car dies or stalls once you take off one of the battery heads, then you have a bad alternator.
good luck

those lights that popped on were probably because of the battery not giivng enough power...
I've heard of lights coming up and check engine as well since the battery is not working properly...so u shudnt worry abt that..
Just changing hte alternator...should solve everything and you shudnt get ur VSC light back on either.
