Gas Mileage Question
Whats up all. I am wondering what the best mpg you guys have got with your 2nd gen GS. Make sure to specify year and whether its a GS3, GS4, or GS430. The best I have ever gotten was 27 mpg in my '99 GS4.

Well, I drive roughly 20 miles to work one way, and that lasted me almost two weeks. I'd say abour 430 of thosemiles were highway, the rest were city. Let me also mention, for gas mileage purposes, I was going no more than 55 on the highway just to get up to that number of miles. Yeah, its slow, but it definitely saves on gas. I would never go on a long road trip and go so slow. The time difference for a 20 mile drive between 55 and 80, which is what I normally drive, is not too noticeable. However, when I drive from Jacksonville to Miami, that difference would add hours to the drive - not something worth saving a little gas money.

Its all about where and how you drive. You get better mileage on the highway and even better mileage if on the highway you go 55. Yes, it sounds slow, however, you lose 10% of your fuel efficiency for every 5 mph over 55. Think about going 80 - a reasonable speed on a large interstate. Thats 25 mph over 55 - or 50% less fuel efficiency. If the drive time difference is not that significant, buckle down and go slower. No flooring the gas pedal and sending the RPM's into the red. If you can keep your RPM's under 2500, you are in awesome shape and you will improve your gas mileage.

It is tough. It all depends on how far you have to drive. On short distance drives, the time difference is not noticeable. However, like I said before, I couldn't do 55 when making the trip from Jacksonville to Miami - it would add whole hours to the trip.
