Default Has anyone done DIY on a alternator ?

My alternator has gone bad on my 98 GS400. Has anyone replaced one before?

Not hard. Very straight forward. Just a pain cause it's wedged in there good.

Much easier if you attack from the bottom...I think like 2 or 3 bolts and disconnect wire.

Mine is on the way out too. I'd love to see some pics or a manual if possible!

remove it from underneath, pull off the drive belt (replace it while you are at it, it's not much anyways) the sway bar is going to get in the way, as well as the power steering line. with the PS line, you can just unbolt it and move it out of the way (leave it connected!) and with the sway bar, you just have to maneuver it through with some finesse. it's easy to put back in though, since you know how to take it out by then lol.

Its very easy from the bottom - three or four bolts, and one or two electrical connectors and you've got it out. Gotta take the serp. belt out first tho.

In the manual posted it states the PS pulley needs to be pulled off. But none of you guys who have done it mention it, is that an option for easier access? Can it be done with it left on?
