Default Noise from suspension: tie rod? or ball joint?

So a few weeks ago, I started to notice some clunck-clunck-clunck-clunck noise as I turn at low speed (around 30mph on a curvy road) as I turn. It really feels like a tie-rod going bad (had an Acura Legend that had the same symptom and it desperately needed tie rods) but I'm afraid it might be the ball joints as a lot of the members have suffered.

I searched CL and found ways to check for a bad ball joint but is there a way to check a bad tie-rod for our GSs?

Why not replace them both? Usually the clunk noise is associated with the balljoints in our cars.

Really, I would just replace both. The both tend to go bad around 100k or so. So why not just spend the extra $$$ now instead of later down the road?
