Default Bought GS 430 Today! Need help on Prepaid Maintenance Issue

Hello,

I took delivery today of a 2002 GS 430. Burnished gold w/ ML/Nav, 17" chromes and spoiler. Woo hoo!

The dealer is offering a prepaid maintenance package. For $1,500, they will cover all maintenance for 4 years or 45,000 miles, whichever comes first.

All service has to be performed at this dealer, but it is conveniently located and I don't plan on moving anytime soon.

Does this sound like a deal I should take? I must decide tomorrow, the 13th.

Thanks in advance.

call all the nearby dealers and ask for a quote on all services as indicated by the book. if they had included the 60k service, i'd say TAKE it. but from years of owning lexuses(sp?), i do not think it is a good deal.

There's not really much to do in the first 45,000 miles. They should be offering that free like BMW and Audi does. Needless to say - it's a ripoff. And please, don't take it to the Lexus dealer for service you can save at least 50% taking it to an independent mechanic specializing in Lexus cars...

It would be worth your while to check on having the 3M film applied to the front of the car. The paint will chip fairly easily. The next car I buy will get the film put on before I drive it, if possible.
I would check around to see if there is an independent shop in your area that puts the film on. The dealer will probably soak you for it.

Lump-sum money is better spent on Mods and or extended warranty (if you plan to keep the vehicle that long).

Most services within 4 years/45,000miles are oil changes, inspections, flush the brake fluid once, and probably change the tranny oil twice. If you can do most of the services above yourself, I don't think you need to buy that package.

Oso, congratulations!!! 11 months ago to the day! I picked up my '01.

I agree with previous posters as far as the prepaid maintainence. At best, the dealer is going to make sure that they break even on the deal. At worst, it's a good way for them to hide a few hundred dollars more in service than you would have paid in sum for the individual services. Remember, the 1k (which is essentially an inspection) and 5k (more of the same plus tire rotation and oil change) are free to begin with.

And I don't disagree with BLiu, but "free maintainence" is not really free but built into the price of the car. So, one way or another, you pay for maintainence.
