How to stop Telescopic steering wheel
#3
There is also a CBEST setting that can be programmed at your dealer, so you can set it however you like and it won't move with the key inserted or removed. If you go this route, you may want to look into the many other changes you can have made to your convenience. Unlocking all doors with one press of the remote for example comes to mind. Search "CBEST" for a list.

I need the extra room to get in and out of the car! I love having the wheels tilt up when I take the key out! Having all 4 doors unlock with one touch I believe has been my favorite mod!

You can unplug the connector underneath the ignition lock i.e. directly at the base. 5 minute job. Pull out the moulding around the ignition key (it pulls out easily enough) and then unplug it. Done deal.

The previous owner had the CBEST settings changed and disabled both the telescoping steering column and the power seats. It was a benefit seeing how I am only 5'5", so I can slide in and out easily anyways. The other upside is that you place less wear and tear on those mechanisms (seat and steering column).

There are two options.
1. The setting has been disabled electronically through the CBEST setting which requires an OEM scan tool to set.
2. It has been physically unplugged as mine was. The most likely case is that has been disconnected at the ignition lock which is the easiest place to get to. The moulding around the ignition lock pulls out but first pull out the illuminating bezel around the barrel. Once these are removed and you have access to the ignition lock, you should see a small connector at the base of the ignition lock (6 o'clock) very near the front. The connector has two black wires (with two white stripes). If this is unplugged then the auto function will not work. If it is in then either it is faulty, disconnected up stream or simply been de-programmed and so move to Option 1.
