Question 60k service price difference

I called Longo Lexus to make an appt. for 60k service and was quoted $300. Then I called Tustin Lexus, they quoted me a shocking $990. WTF, that's more than 3 times more!!!

What's going on with the dealerships???

for serivice, longo is one of the cheapest, and owner friendly dealer in LA. wow, gs400 is a lot more than $300, ~$600 for the v-8. i guess you got to pay to play...

sypc,

if you need an advisor at longo, ask for VERONNE, he is a young, cool car guy like us. and he takes care of several members' ride with great service. tell him william send you there if you decide to go to longo

sypc, I think $300 is way too cheap for the $60k. I just recently had mine done for $890. Btw, Doesn't the timing belt get replaced at 90k service?

I don't think 60k should be 890. My bro's MB didn't cost that much.

Is there a large difference between prices for GS300 and GS400/430s? L6 and V8 that much difference?

I was kinda skeptical, so I called back to Longo again. 298 + tax!!! timing belt is not scheduled to change for 60k service.
I just got off the phone with Tustin Lexus, yup, same service, 3X the price!!!

Here's one more reason I hate that dealership!!!

Will, I will ask for him when I get there. Should I let him know you refered me?

My mechanic also said to change the water pump, serpentine belt and a couple seals while he's down there to avoid repetitive labor costs. He said the water pump usually fails at 115k miles.

Default Timing Belt Questions

As a point of reference, I had a 92 SC400 and a 93 LS400 and did not change the belts until 120K miles. I have also previously read that in the Lexus it is actually a fabric belt and not a gear driven belt. If it breaks, it's not supposed to do any damage to the engine - the engine will just stop running. You may want to confirm this with you mechanic.

Lastly, when I brought my wife's 98 LS400 in for the 60k service, I was so pissed off at the quote that I took a different approach. I went through the checklist and told them to just quote me for the specific items that I wanted done. Skip all the "inspections" - you know that they don't do these anyways. All of the basic items I had done elsewhere for significantly less, i.e., oil change, tire rotation & balance, etc. I changed my own air filter(Pep Boys).

Just a thought on how you can reduce the dealer expenses...
