Default Gauge Cluster Question

I know there are a lot of posts about the gauge cluster upgrade to the 01+ version, but is it possible to change the speedometer, mph, etc. gauges inside the cluster. I have a 99 GS and am trying to make it glow white like the 01+ models instead of the green tinted color. Are there any aftermarket companies that sell the inner gauges possibly like the new 3rd gen GS's? Has anyone done this before?

Thanks.

Nope no aftermarket. If you want to make it white, your only option is to convert to LED's or change out to new CCFL rings.

I never seen them offer one for the GS with the optitron gauges. I've only seen it for the older style lexus with the white/yellow lettering.

I think he had em, but never could get the dimmer to work right. There pics on the site, but none for sale.

Anyway, I want to change those ugly azz green things too. I really like the look of the new GS cluster. Wish someone made a aftermarket kit for the 2nd gen.

Per their forum,

http://lextech.org/forums/index.php?topic=25.0

"We will build RED waterfall needles and any color backlight for the 1st gen GS models, but no other version of the GS.

Thanks"

It seems like they only build lights for the ES and SC models. Sucks big time for us greeners.

Sorry to bring back an old thread. Does anyone have a picture of the back of the cluster or the pigtails for the 06+ clusters. I wanna see if its possible to retrofit this into 2nd gena.

Whats stupid, is why do they only have them available for models less often modded?

the gauge cluster is lite using compact fluorescent tubes instead of conventional light bulbs or even leds. thats how you get the constant white/green glow.

if i remember correctly, the CFLs sit in the gauge like \__/ behind and around each dial.

someone posted this pic on FB the other day. not mine, but they are showing the light tubes curving around the gauges in a U-Shape with like a spring wire wrapped around them. So as i understand, thats what would be needed to be converted to LED.
