Default THE Thread for AC Noise During Startup

It is coming from behind the cd changer in the glove box (or the cd changer itself). It sounds like a cell phone vibrating, and only happens during the first 5 sec. of turning the key to the "on" position. It is a small problem but it gets pretty annoying sometimes. Can somebody help me? Thanks.

BTW: I just picked up this '01 MPP Lexus GS300...she is absolutely beautiful.

edit: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...howtopic=20561

I will try that tomorrow and report back.

could be your master cylinder pressurizing.

Just a wild guess here. Perhaps a vacuum motor on the heater/AC air box not closing smoothly. I assume it goes away fairly quickly?

yes it goes away fairly quickly...like about 5 seconds. Does that noise have something to do with heater not working with AC on the right side of my car? When i turn on AC and bump temp all the way up to 85....the left side of the vents gets hot but the right side stays ice cold.

It's possible you may have low coolant and are experiencing air in your heater core. Check the levels and top if needed. Run your heat and drive around a bit. You can test it by sitting in park and rev the engine lightly, it should happen again.

The hydraulic brake booster pressurizing is also possible, open your hood and have someone else start the car while you listen to the booster.

DON'T disregard the other suggestions, remember mine is a guess based on previous experience with other vehicles not a GS. But yes, if a vacuum motor wasn't functioning properly, i.e. not closing all the way as it should because it's binding on something or some other problem with it, then hot air could come out where and when it should not.

There are three electric servo motors controlling the air flow in the heater/ AC plenum assembly.

They may be recycling.

Ahhh...., so they are electric not vacuum, that's good information. Thanks for the heads up! So, his/her heater/AC problem could be related to one of these motors and the strange noise might be the brake booster pressurizing.

I'll attach the wiring diagram for the 2001 GS300.

There are two pages. I'll keep them separate for simpler printing.

thanks for the attachment. Could it simply be a blown fuse or a bad electric motor?

I apologize I missed your question.

This link describes cleaning the contacts inside the motor, maybe prolonging it's life ...

I have not performed this task myself ...
