Default Whistling noise when A/C is on

Does anyone else get a strange whistling noice from the dirvers door when the A/C is on? It is the same at any speed and only when the A/C is on. It does not really sound like wind blowing. It's hard to explain. Sounds like it's coming from the drivers door or headliner above the driver between the door and sunroom.

I have had 2 98 GS4's now and both were the same way. Any idea what is causing it and if so, what can be done about it?

I have the same noise, but mine is coming from the air vent on the drivers side next to the door. Slight whistling sound that goes away when shut off AC and the fan.

Anyone else know what causes this?

Same here. It almost sounds like crickets chirping. Lexus says it's normal. They said it has something to do with the freon circulating through the system.

Yep! That's it... sounds like we all have the same noise. Mine could be coming from that vent. I guess it must be normal.

I've got the same noise, I'm glad to hear it's not the sign of something serious

Could the ducts behind the dash. The way its set up the plastic could be a little separated and allowing a lil air to escape causing a whitsleing sound as air passes over the hole (big guess, but I have removed a dash or two in my life and the plastic ducts are not well secured especially if the foam is deteriorating which helps the seal).

Do you all notice different levels of sound between low and high settings or is it constant?

When I hear it, it's constant for me too, although it doesn't always make the noise.

I have the same noise. It's very discreet but slightly noticeable with the radio off.

I forgot to mention that when I first heard the noise, I hopped on CL and did some research. Based on what I read, it looks like other Lexus models have the same issue.

when I was shopping for a GS one that I drove had a whistle from the ac, it was only when the back vents were partially shut.

I have the same sound. Maybe I don't pay attention, but it seems like it only happens occasionally. I thought cleaning and changing the cabin filter helped, but could be wrong. I found leaves in the filter and convinced myself it was an air-over-leaf sound.

that is the same response we got on our SC for that weird noise. only happened when a/c was on. it bugged the crap out of me though - we don't have it on the other cars.
