How well does Lexus GS protect you from injury in a car accident? What do you know about Lexus collapsible body structure? I heard in the event of a car accident, the Lexus collapsible body structure absorbs the energy of the accident by crumpling up such that the occupants of the car are protected from injury. In other words, the force of the accident is absorbed through the car rather than through the people in the car.

Does Lexus also have a safety cage that makes the car strong? Do you feel safer in a Lexus compared to other luxury cars?

I've seen a few accident pictures of GS's on this board and I must say, the car really does well in accidents. Most of the time when there is a front end collision, the GS cabin looks like it's still intact. So yes, the energy does get absorbed as much as possible before hitting the people inside the cabin.

As far as safety cage, i would think the frame itself is considered a "safety cage". Do I feel safer in a lexus compared to other luxury cars? hard to say. I've seen many nasty accidents, but for some reason, I feel just a bit more safer in a Mercedes, than a lexus. I would feel equally as safe in a bmw as a lexus. Then again, I dont like the idea of being a guinnea pig to test out accidents.

The GS is certainly designed well. Some people make them unsafe though by taking out some of the safety features in an effort to make the car lighter. It is sad to think about what might happen if these same lightened cars were subsequently sold to an unknowing person who then was involved in an accident.

Which parts are you referring to?

I mean theres really not much you can remove without being terribly obvious to the next owner. I mean, if youre missing the passenger seat, rear seats, door panels, and the dash the buyer might have a few questions

Remove the spare tire, yeah I took mine out. Unless you are referring to people removing the airbags which I wouldn't really understand. Those things only weigh a few pounds. Upgraded suspension and upgraded brakes also lightens the car up a little bit.

I can tell you that I had a 98 GS300 before my current one, and I was in a huge accident. I was rear-ended by a pickup which was in turn rear-ended by a semi and the pickup was pushed between my car and the jersey barrier. We were all pushed down the road about 50-75 feet from a stand-still. I walked away unscathed. The structural integrity of the GS is impeccable IMO. For that very reason I bought another one.

I thought the bumper bars were only required in the US. The 5MPH crash law or something like that. In other countries they don't have the bumper bars. Thats why you see people in europe bumping in and out of parking spaces when doing tight parking

Unless they changed the regulations and all cars everywhere have the bars now?
