Buying a 2002 GS 300. About Stereo and Tires
Hello All,
I am going to be buying a 2002 GS 300 in the next couple of days. I currently own an Audi that has the bose premium speaker package. When listening to the GS 300 it seemed like it was a fairly pathetic stock stereo. But I'm not positive if that is the case or if it's just a different sound signature.
What sort of speaker setup comes with the GS 300 when one doesn't have the ML sound upgrade?
What is the weak link in the stereo? Is it the head unit or speakers? Any recommendations on a relatively cheap upgrade to get some decent sound out of it?
Also, the dealer put blizzak tires on it. I am fairly certain it's not a good idea to be riding around in those in 100 degree summer weather. Since the test drives were on the blizzaks and I've never driven winter tires or RWD before, I have no idea what style of tire I would want for the summer. Any recommendations, again focusing on relatively cheap? I'm not sure I can commit to a second set of wheels or not, maybe if they are cheap wheels that I would use during the winter...
Thanks

The stock non-ML system is pretty crappy (entry-level Pioneer stuff)... same quality as the factory stereo on most other cars. The ML system is much nicer and would sastify most enough to not upgrade unless you really wanted more bass. I would say the weak link is the amp and speakers. Low power output and basic paper cone speakers never sound good.
Check out tirerack.com for suggested tires. They have some Bridgestone RE050As for close out prices around $97 each for 17" sizes.

What are the speaker sizes for the vehicle? I counted 6 or 7 total but I didn't look too closely. Crutchfield doesn't seem to have any information on them.
