In between the 540i and the GS, I had a '97 Cobra that I bought bone stock and modded heavily. I can't agree more with tmf2004 about the rattles and shakes. The GS was so much quieter and smoother, it was just a treat to drive.

My old 1993 Infiniti G20...
I didn't mod much - just a header and a real cold air intake - none of this short ram intake mumbo jumbo.
I even installed a playstation with an Alpine CVA 1000 in the dash. The ORIGINAL playstation - ohhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaaah...
Sold the car for 1,500. Put about 80k miles on it I think. Towards the end, it was costing me so much here and there - it was ridiculous. Yeah, it was 11 years old when I sold it but still... my GS is about 8 year old now and it's practically in new condition. Had all the door dings pulled, interior is clean, no rips/tears (knock on wood), the only issue is the popular broken piping on the driver's seat issue and it has 111k miles.
My car deserves a Lance Armstrong "Live Strong" arm band on the intake or something.
