Default Need help with woodgrain color matching

Im about to add my in-dash EQ to my system but the pocket on the mounting kit requires modification to house the EQ which would wind up looking less than perfect. I already have a sheet of Bird's Eye Maple (Golden?) that has not been stained but I need help figuring out how to match the color. A looong time ago I found the company that supposedly creates the woodgrain for Lexus but I am unable to find that thread on CL. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it. I wonder if American Stitches would be willing to come off the answer. If anyone is buddy buddy with them please inquire for me.

I bought a brand new RX wood wheel and physically took it over the American Stitches located here in Dallas. I wanted to have them re-wrap it with grey leather to match the GS gray leather steering wheel and re-stain the wood to match the GS wood. The RX wood wheel is a bit redder than the GS wood. Anyway, I talked to they guy who does all the wood work on their steering wheels and he told me that the wood on the factory Lexus wheel is a very thin veneer. He said he did not feel comfortable sanding it down and refinishing it. He wanted to just go ahead and replace the wood. I don't see why you could not just hand sand off the finish and re-stain it yourself. They have finished re-wraping the leather on my wheel and I need to get over there and pick it up. When I go over there, I will ask their stain guy what stain is used on the GS. Hopefully he doesn't mind telling me.

I bought a small sheet of birds eye maple off of Ebay that has no stain or finish. I want to make a cover that goes around the Alpine touchscreen and EQ because Im about to hack up the pocket on the radio mounting kit so the EQ will fit so I wanted to cover it when Im done. That would be great if you could ask him what stain they use for Bird's Eye Maple.
