Default I have a buzzing sound

Well not really, but I thought I'd get more input this way

This morning when I went to start up my car, I heard a buzzing sound from the back (speaker?) I turned on the car and after about 15 seconds, white smoke started coming from the passanger's side dash (the crack between the airbag and front windshield) I immediately shut the car off.

A few minutes later I tried it again and the same thing happened. I remembered the buzzing sound from the rear speaker, so this time around I turned off the radio. The white smoke didn't come out this time. I turned on the radio to see if anything would change, but this time around my radio didn't play any sound (cd or radio stations.)

What could this be? In the last few days I had some type of weird sounds coming from the sub or rear speakers. Is it time for me to upgrade the audio system or could it be much more serious?

Thanks

Passanger side by the airbag. When I opened the glove compartment, some came out from there too.

your amp or deck is probably fried. I would pull the fuse for now.

I am with Chuckb. Your amp is in that area and since it didnt happen when you turned the radio off it makes sense. I would take it to the dealer if it is under warranty and see what can be done

Thanks for the replies.

I am not very knowledgable when it comes to audio. Can this amp be replaced with an after market one or does this one need to be switched out with a stock amp?

Give more info on your car (make/model/year) and you'll have an easier time getting specific answers versus generic responses. Do you have a warranty, Mark Levinson, NAk, etc?

And FYI, saying your car was set on fire was not cool, lol, scared the **** out of me. You got some attention but God forbid your car see's some actual flames and you post and get ignored by everyone thinking you have another stereo issue, lol

GS + Fire = WTF????

I'm sorry, should have been more specific.

I have a 99 GS400, non-premium audio (pioneer) with the 6 cd changer in the glove compartment. The car has about 89K miles and no warranty.

ouch .... time to see how much wiring harness was burnt ... might suggest taking dash apart if you cant find where the burn stopped at ....

Good luck ... keep us posted...

Lexus would charge you an arm and a leg to replace the stock amp. For the same price you could get a much better amp and get it installed, too.

The CD looks fine, I already checked it. I thought the amp was there too...? Radio doesn't work either, but the deck does turn on and displayes everything as if nothing had happened. There just is no sound.

Sounds like the car is dead now....

Take some gasoline...open the window...pour the gasoline inside....set it on fire.

No need for that. I'll just turn on the radio, have the same end effect and still save a couple of $ on the gasoline

Sorry to hear about the radio - hope you get it worked out.
