Default Squeaky Sterring Wheel (Not Column Motor)

When I first bought my GS I noticed it was squeaking sometimes when I turned right or left. It started making the noise again yesterday and I decided to see what's going on. I decided to put some WD 40 on the little black plastic pieces right behind the steering wheel and the column. Not a good idea... It just makes more noise more frequently. I ran a search but only found people that have problems with the squeaking when the column begins to retract. Mine makes no noise when it goes up, down or out, but only when turning the steering wheel. It sounds like two pieces of plastic rubbing on each other, and it has now gotten to the point where I am fed up with the damn noise. Once in a while was tolerable, but now (especially after trying to lube it) it's just unacceptable.

I saw that no one (other than one person) was able to fix ANY sort of squeak coming from the steering wheel column, but does anyone have any clue as to the steering wheel/ column joint squeak????

My car has the same problem. It sounds like someone is passing gas. But the sounds like the noise is coming from behind the air bag and not near the firewall.

I opened up the column and found a black piece making the noise. It goes in behind the steering wheel and connects with the column itself. I cant get to it without having to take the steering wheel apart. BUT, what I did do is took some of the factory grease from the bottom of the steering column and put it on the little black piece. Since then, I haven't heard the squeak. But I think this is a temporary fix, I'm going to have to crack it open to find out....

Check your power steering fluid. Might be low. If anything, take apart your steering column, and put grease on that sucka!

...again with the ball joint thing.

When the boot at the ball joint is torn or ripped the grease comes out and the moisture/ rust enters the joint.

After the joint drys out you will hear a strange squeak, creaking, farting type noise every time the steering wheel is turned. The sound seams like it originates from the steering column but if nothing is found there check if the ball joint boot is torn.

I went through this on a coworkers car (IS300), it would get worse after a rain, I was about to install a whole new steering rack when I looked at the BJ boot, ripped. Squirted some grease in the hole and problem fixed. Took the steering rack back to Lexus and purchased a left side ball joint.
