Brake Light Out Sensor coming on for no apparent reason

i've had the brake light come on, and when i checked the bulbs in the back, they were fine. turns out that you can still have a bad bulb even though it is working. what happens is, initialy, the filament on the bulb breaks, causing an open circuit to trigger the brake warning light. however, sometimes (in the cases i've experienced) the filaments get bumped back to making contact and works for a bit longer, causing you to scratch your head when u see the light work. take the bulb out and inspect it. if the filament looks like it has melted, then it's a bad bulb for sure.

Exactly...My wife does the same thing. So, check inner tail lights' bulbs especially.

Most probably you have a bulb which is on the verge of its end of life. Wait a few days and it will be evident which bulb is bad.
At least one member had a bent wire at the bulb, preventing a good contact in the socket.

yea, most likely it's the filament making contact when the car is moving (happend to me before)
Just see if you can figure out which bulb it is. When the indicator is on, just have somebody stand in the back while you step on the brakes to flash your brake lights. When in doubt, just change them all. haha. Bulbs are cheap anyways.

i bought $20 worth of bulbs just for the one i actually needed, oh well now i got em in reserve for when others go
i had the wife checking the other night and she said everything was fine i put a heavy tool case on the brake pedal and checked for myself last night, it was obvious right away, moral of the story check yourself and dont listen to your wife
