Default Steering Column Issues

I am the owner of a 1999 GS300...the telescoping and tilt wheel continue to work, but the steering column has a small wiggle (up and down), even after the wheel and column are set at the memory postions...not a real big deal, until you drive the car and find the steering column to wiggle (move up and down) when you are turning the wheel...any thoughts of a fix??? I really don't want to go to the dealer, for fear of their pricing...any help is appreciated.

Default Steering Column Issues Fixed

Figured I would give an update...I took the car to the dealership (scared as hell about the possible price to fix). They called me a couple of hours later and told me there was a toggle screw, inside the steering column that was loose and backed itself out...total fix, $99.50. Needless to say, I was happy.

$100 to insert a screw.

I love the dealer.

You have to take into account that they took things apart to troubleshoot the issue. Some people are not comfortable tearing parts of their car apart. Yes, I agree that the dealer tends to charge a bit more but I think "$100 to insert a screw" is an over simplification.

I was told they would have to drop and the entire column, in order to get to the screw...I checked with a friend at work, who used to work for Toyota as a techinician...He told me that $100.00 was nothing compared to the pain it would be for my novice *** to drop the column to get to the toggle screw...seeing as how I was expecting to pay much more, $100.00 is nothing to fix an annoyance on a car that will last....
