Do I need snow tires or should all season tires work for NYC Snow??

What kind of tires do you recommend for all season and winter tires?

Thanks!

If yo plan on driving your lex during the winter you better get snow tires. I have yokohama ones and my car goes good through the snow. It is actually fun sometimes.

If it were just 500 I'd agree with you, but in VA I have to pay taxes, registration, and find a place to park that pig. Plus, if it's snowing I want the most reliable thing I can get. I don't want to get stranded in my 500 car in the snow cause it won't start, or just dies or something.

Default No snows, MichelinPilot AS

I live in Chicago, I don't use snow tires. While they are ideal in snow, here in Chicago the snow doesn't come that often and when it does come, it doesn't stay on the street long (big taxes = lots of plows/drivers/overtime). I find snow tires to be very noisy, esp on a clean highway at 75mph. I'll take deminished snow performance for the 5~7 days a year the roads are covered (when it's a freaking traffic jam anyway), so I can have good dry performance the other 360 days per year.

I've driven rear wheel drive cars all my life, never had snow tires (I'm 44). In the old days it was no posi, no TC (in a '75 Camaro no less). With the snow setting for the trans and TC/ABS, my GS is the best car I've ever owned for snow (note I said, "I've ever owned", not "the best car in the snow").

I just bought new Michelin Pilot Sport AS for my GS430. I checked Tirerack's website for snow ratings on 17" tires, the choices are slim. In the end, the only 235/45-17 tire I could find with a good snow rating, yet not be actual snow tires, were the Michelins. These Pilots are great, at $935 installed w/road hazard, they better be! I never regret buying the best tires, I've got Pilots on my Vette and Momma's minivan has top of the line Michilens too. BTW, I buy all my tires at Costco, they have the best prices and road hazard warrenty is included.
