Love My GS..Hate My Dealer
I really can't say enough good things about my GS, as well as Club Lexus. But...I really have some problems with my Lexus Dealer. I guess that's the price I pay for living in Hawaii, but come on. I recently needed to change my Charcoal cannister and was told by Servco Lexus that the part alone was $650. After a little searching in the forums, I found the part at Sewell Lexus for more than $400 less. Come on now, where does Servco get off charging (overcharging) so much for the same exact part. I am almost due for service and am really concidering taking the invoice that I have to them and asking the parts manager what's up with the price gap. I will buy another Lexus in the future, but it wont be from Servco Lexus in Hawaii.

Sucks huh
I agree. I needed the speed sensor for my car when the ball joint for my gs400 broke and the local dealership was charging me $196 for the part here and thats after my 20% wholesale discount.
Went to our Sponsor Steve Ganz and got it for $170 shipped.
What gives? Perfect example of dealerships overcharging because they can.
Thank goodness for CL.

I feel your pain likopiko, Alaska here. Fortunately my dealership is very reasonable and competitive but I have encountered this issue of ridculous shipping fees so many times here. Vendors here have the attitude, take it or leave it, because someone else will buy it. Internet buying and USPS Priority Mail shipping has saved me lots of money.

I haven't visited Servco Lexus, yet. But, I am not looking forward to it after reading your post. I guess there is always L X S, but they probably get their parts from Servco Lexus?

Thats what im leary about buying a lexus. I saw how much my dad had to do with their RX, and we live in Ohio. I hate dealers but there dont appear to be any private lexus shops.

I'm not sure if you have one there, but here in Phoenix there is a Toyota/Scion dealer that does Lexus service and can order Lexus parts. They have been great so far.
If there is one near you it might be worth a try, or at least a phone call, to see if they can help you.

Yah...because they are the exclusive Toyota / Lexus / Scion dealers in Hawaii....they have no competition locally.
FYI - I dont buy parts from Servco Lexus unless I have to. Like anything else, shop around for parts. The only advantage with Servco is that they may have it in stock when you need it fast....otherwise, PM Carson Toyota / Sewell Lexus for a price quote.
Is that $650 the installed price quote?
I cant believe there is a $400 difference in price for just the part alone. I got the GS parts list and it comes with pricing for everything. If a part is +$400 more than what is listed, I'd be calling them out on it ...speak to the manager (or maybe even call Lexus Corporate to complain).
Besides detesting Haterz....i detest price gougers.
Charcoal cannister, huh? Lemme check my list. I will post if I find it.

OK....here's what I found.
For some weird reason....there is a huge price difference cuz its different part #s for different model years.
Cannister Assembly, Charcoal (come with VSV - Vacuum Switching Valve)
Yr...........Part # ..................Price
98..........#77740-30260....$261.20
99-00....#77740-30271....$542.88
01..........#77740-30272.....$429.15
Your profile says you have a 99 GS......so if Servco is asking $650....that's still high (unless...as i said earlier...the $650 is an installed price).
Does that mean you ordered the 98 part for your 99 model? Hope it fits.
Good luck.
