Chip Remembers Driving Style?? 01 GS300
Someone mentioned that Lexus have a chip that remembers your driving style. Is this true?
If so, is there an easy way to re-set the chip. I picked up my 2001 GS300 couple of months ago with 38k miles, I presume its remembered the previous drivers style, not adapted to mine?

I believe what you're talking about is the ECU that controls Fuel air mixture etc... What is remembers is if you drive your car like a granny or excellerate hard etc... you can reset it by disconnecting your battery for 15 min. (at least on the 1 gen)

Fuse 38!
Tx for the info. Its fuse 38, the 25amp on a 2001 GS300, under hood front passanger side, to save others looking it up. Don't know if it will make any difference, let you know.
BTW, didn't want to try disconnecting the battery, its my understanding that it thinks the radio has been stolen and shuts it down, requiring some long lost secret code to activate it. But could be wrong about that. Machog

Chip
Not sure why I'm bothering, but chip does remember your driving style, maybe it alters gas consumption or performance not sure.
To my other "learned" colleague, best of my knowledge there isn't a second gen forum-where do you suggest I post??
Machog.

I've moved this thread back up to the main forum so all should be good.

Resetting the ECU is harder than just pulling the EFI fuse or disconnecting the battery in newer models... supposedly you need to have it reset via scantool (ECT-i equipped vehicles)
The ECU remembers your shifting habits (VVT-i and/or ECT-i equipped vehicles) and adjusted the valve timing (slightly at shift points) and transmission shift points to achieve maximum power in your 'normal' range and best MPG at the set range. When you have the accelerator at WOT (wide open throttle) however, the readings are ignored and it'll go off the default acceleration program.
The best way to train (my experience, reset 3 times on my car) is to drive at lower RPMs so all the torque is gathered at that point =D (2000 RPM, in my case... which is nothing for a 4-cylinder) and after it learns your driving habits (supposedly 6 tanks of gas to learn!!) you'll have more torque in that range than you know what to do with =D My friend (same car) reset his ECU but he always drives to 3500-4000 RPM streets... redline freeway entry and my car has more low end torque than his... or so it seems x_x
It's worth a shot, isn't it? =]

the ECU does remember your driving habit. It's not as complicated as it sounds. Just pull the fuse out and leave for about 10 minutes. Place it back inm and you will have lost everything radio channels, seat memory, whatever. Depending on how you want your GS to run after the memory wipe-out, you drive that style, and teh GS will grow into it.

It's the ecu b fuse under hood, passenger side. leave it out for about 40 min. you'll know it reset because your clock, radio presets, and seat wheel memory will erase.
it should shift a little crisper and maybe respond better. however, if you have been driving the car aggressively, it will not make a diiference. the ecu reponds to aggressive driving pretty quickly
