I'm looking at two 2000 GS400's. One has the navigation and the other the nakamichi. They are almost the same price, around $43k. Which one would you choose and why. By the way one is black with nav and the other silver.

Default NAV NAV NAV!!!!

Both silver and the black are very nice colors on the GS series. I would certainly go with the Nav. Why?
The stereo that comes with the Nav is very good if not the Nakamichi. My SC400 had the Nakamichi system and it did sound very good for factory, but the stock system in the GS is still good and more then enough for most. But that Nav system......oh man. I tell ya. I was doubtful of Navigation in the begining, but im a certain believer now. Everyone that gets in the car notices the Nav system first. Audio, climate controls on the touchscreen. So cool. Plus the car talks to ya! It is a very effective system and much much much simpler then any map or Yahoo lookup. Many times I have hit the "detour" button becuase of a train, traffic jamb....and it would calculate a detour that I never knew existed. The other day coming home from Carson Toyota (LTUNE kit), I hit the 91 at 4pm.
The 60 was just as bad. This trip would normally take 1.5-1.75 hours at least. I told it to take the side streets and I got home on "side streets" through areas I did not even knew existed in only 1 hour even.
Did I mention people gawk at it all of the time. They just sit in the area and stare at the screen.
In comparison, you do have to hit maybe one more button to get something accomplished for the audio and climate system vrs the non-nav systems, but IMO it is well worth it. People that pull up next to me in SUV's and trucks just stare. For now Nav is still a specialty car item. That will change in 10 years, but now it sets cars apart.
Just my opinion. Either way your getting a dream car.

Short story.

NAV doesn't do it for me but if you like the NAV get the one that has it.

IMO it's really tough to get a good looking after market NAV. I'm told the Nak doesn't sound THAT much better than the premium system. And it's not that tough to upgrade the stereo if you choose to...much easier than integrating a NAV into the dash.

Nav without a doubt! You can always upgrade the stereo system to something better than stock, much easier than doing a custom navigation system.

Can't really answer for you because it depends on your preferences.

I love listening to music in the car, but I still went for the nav over the nak in my 2000 GS400. The Pioneer stereo is still very good and I *love* having the nav system.

I personally would never get a black car - they look great when they're clean but they're a pain to keep clean.

Hope this helps.
