I think it may be bulb specific. I just bought some new bulbs(Sylvania) and now they are on all the time. The originals were not on.

Or you can put in one burned out bulb, if you take the bulbs out is there some kind of warning that will go off?

Try and do a search, there is a thread on how to disable them...it involves creating a jumper wire within the fuse box.

Take out the bulb=no more high beams.
There's a recent thread (I think by BananaGS?)that describes how to do it. All you do is remove a "jumper" in one of the fuse/relay boxes.

Take it to the dealer and have them turn it off.

This is on my '01 GS430
NOTE: The left side has the 'tab' removed as you really have to wedge it into the holder with the DRL #1 minifuse
Drum roll please ..............
Presto .... NO MORE DAMN DRLs now I can put ANY 9005 bulb in there that I want (i.e. Toshiba HIR @ $30) without fear of blowing them early due to being on 90% of the time at half wattage.

Daytime Running Light = High Beam Lamp @ half voltage
The smaller bulb you see in the High beam housing is what's commonly referred to as the wedge light or city light . This small bulb only comes on with your low beams.
