Default My car didn't start today.

My car wouldn't start today.
It would crank over and allmost start but die down again.
I called the dealer, they picked up the car and told me it started when they got it in the workshop.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Just be sure to check everything else before jumping to the conclusion that it is the starter.

I replaced mine a few months ago @ 67k miles. Your description sounds just like mine when the starter went out.

The started worked, it sounded faster then usuall though when it didn't want to start up the engine.
I was thinking it could be something with the vvti, maybe it had lost its mind, LOL.

The same thing actually happened to me a few weeks ago. I started the car to warm it up in my driveway, but i needed my keys to open something in my garage. So i turned off the car, and when i came back like 30 seconds later it would just crank and crank and crank and not want to run. I let it sit for about 10-15 min and tried again and it started right up. I think its a problem with the throttle body. I remember the 98s having trouble with them because of a low idle problem. If it cranks and doesnt fire i really doubt its the battery. Id put my money on the throttle body. Keep us posted

The same EXACT thing has happened to me twice. When the car is cold, it starts right up, but if I turn it off within the first 30 seconds, sometimes it takes a few minutes to start up again. It cranks fine, but it sounds like the engine is spinning a little faster than normal and is just not "catching" (if that makes sense).

Well, the car was back at the dealer today.
When I got to the car this morning there where 2 pools of oil under the car.
It was brake fluid thank god but it really scarred me.

The not wanting to start is said to be a malfunction in the vvti.
Don't know if I believe that though.

I wonder what will happen when I pick the car up tomorow, LOL.

I think it happened because they used the brakes without the engine running when they got it off the car ambulance.
I just only noticed it the other day.

Seems everything is OK now.
