Question

Hi all,
I searched the archives and was not able to find much info on independent third party extended warranties. I'm buying a '98 GS400 that has only 28K miles and 11 months left on Lexus warranty.

I looked at WarrantyDirect, WarrantyGold, WarrantybyNet, and Source1warranty. Do you have any first hand experience with any of the these companies or others? Your input/recommendations would be very helpful. I'm looking for a warranty that is "exclusionary" so that I can avoid any surprises should I need to use the policy.

Thanks!

Warranty Gold and maybe others run one or another promotions. When I was shopping Warranty Gold was discounting on the 2nd vehicle. Their price vs Lexus warranty was couple of hundreds away. (7yr, 100K, 0 deductible on an RX)

If you prefer Lexus warranty and the premium is acceptable, you may be able to get it through 1st owner + $50 for transfer fee as long as the original warranty is in-force.

Either case remember to check service records.

You are really buying insurance which you hope never to use.

Good luck with your purchase. We love ours.

Salim

Question

One dealer in Atlanta is asking $2,100 for 7 yr/100k Lexus warranty.

How does this compare with what others paid?

RealMarty---Is that warranty a Lexus warranty or an outside party that the Lexus dealer recommends. Make sure!!! The reason I say this is because I have until December until my warranty runs out. I talked to the dealer and they have an extended warranty package they sell through AutoNation Insurance. They will only sell the Premium coverage plan at the dealership. It includes everything the Lexus extended warranty would, but it has a $50.00 deductible. Not bad, but it will run me only $1200 to cover 60,000 miles. If you guys have any information or recommendations, let me know.

Thanks

I'm not positive, but I believe it's the Lexus warranty.

I also seem to recall that they wanted about $1,200 for the 60k option. But I didn't pay too much attention to the ones that were less than 100k since the drive train is already warranted by Lexus to 60k.

RealMarty---when I say 60k warranty, that is added to the miles that are currently on the car. For example, if I decide to get that warranty, I have to get it on or before my car hits 45k. Then, the warranty will cover an additional 60k miles, so the car will be covered to 105k miles. Check with your dealer and see if that is available. That is the quote I got, and I am sure of those parameters.

Hope that helps

I paid $1,000 for 7yr/100k. Got it from Longo Lexus . And I think it's refundable if I never use it.

Is that for a Lexus warranty?? If so, that sounds like a great deal!!

Do you know if they will sell to someone out of state Can you give me the name of someone there to talk to?

the one Globe mentioned is, imo, better than the lexus warranty- it covers some electronic components that lexus extended one does not. plus you get the money back if you never filed a claim. it is, however, administered by an insurance co., not corp lexus

That's for a Lexus warranty, the same as the 4yr/50k warranty but extended to 7yr/100k.

But I think that was a promotion for when I bought my car. I'm not sure if they still offer it, and it's ONLY THROUGH LONGO so I think out-of-state-people do not apply.......... Sorry man.

Folks,
Thanks for all the good info.

I'm getting my new "baby" on Thursday, waiting for the financing paperwork to get done. Here's the vitals:

'98 GS400, beige/ivory
27K miles
Nakamichi w/CD changer
Factory Spoiler
16" rims (ugh!)
Heated Front seats
Power Moonroof

Car was very pampered!

Back to the topic... The best deal on extened warranty that I have found is $1200 for 7 year, 100K warranty w/zero deductible. This is for WarrantyDirect's diamond ("exclusionary" terms) policy.

More details are welcomed.

Thanks!
