Default Fog light Electrical question

Earlier this year someone stole the fog lights from my 98 GS400, They just unscrewed them and cut the wires. I have purchased a used set of fog lights which included the bulbs but it did not have the connector that would connect from the car wires to the lights. They looked like the standard light connectors so I went to AutoZone and got a set. My question is, since the wires from the car are coded (I think one has a stripe on it), does it matter which way I connect them to the wires from the fog lights? They light up up both ways. The reason I ask is that since I have hooked them up I had some strange things happen. The remote on my car used to light my interior lights when I would unlock the door and would turn off the headlights if I hit the remote lock button twice. This only happens every once in a while now. The 2 things may not be related but it just seems odd that it began right after I installed the fogs. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Carmen
