The garage queen (1998 GS400 Blk on Blk with 87K) has been offically taken off the road. It will spend the winter in a heater garage. Any suggestions on storage. Bimonthly starts? Car stands? Fuel stabil? What do you guys do?

It will be taken out just after the street sweepers make their first pass. Providing I can hold out that long. Hoping for a short winter.

Any advise would be great.

yeah i think starting the car and put the car in gear from time to time is good, i would probbaly try to do it twice a months

also, wash the car and put on car covers if possible

Nice one Dave, I need to review these as well. If all goes well, I should have a garage (and that little house thingy that they attach to it) soon. I am really looking forward to putting my car away for the NE winter!

Wax it heavily, with Zymol or some carbuna wax. You can get this other stuff that they put on the car when transporting, to protect the bodywork.

Humidity and temp probs useful also.

Has two coats of wax (Griot's Garage best of show) on it now. No cover yet...... I heard I may be getting one for xmas.

I don't know if I trust jack stands. My buddy at a dealership suggested the use of mats. He said that as long as I have something soft between the tires and the cement I should be fine for the winter as that is what they do at the dealership. i have heard of car stands but never mats. Anyone else heard of this?

i do plan on doing a monthly or bimonthly turning of the Lexus. It gives me time to play a little xbox while I let her run.

I'll have to read daves links for winter storage when I get a few minutes.

d2 Nice looking gs. Do you have a store with inventory in MA? Or is all mail order stuff? My sister goes to Worcester State. I may have to stop buy when I help her move back to my parents place this summer.

Just to simplify this I will tell you what I did last year and will be doing the same this year.

1. Filled the gas tank and then added a bottle of gas stabilizer to the gas tank and then drove home - about 20 miles away. Enough of a drive for the stablizer to mix in properly.

2. Washed and waxed the car

3. Connected a trickle charger to the battery.

That's it! I did not bother starting the car every now and then. Just let it sit there for 4 months or so.

The car was perfectly fine when I took it out in April this year. I guess on a newer car (it was 5 years old last year), my strategy was fine. However on much older cars this strategy might not work because of other issues such as rubber seals in various places getting very hard from lack of use etc.
