Range of Keyless Entry??
So my friend bought a BMW 01 530i and the other night he locked his doors from 40 feet away!!
I tried to do the same to my 98 GS3 and I had to stand 8 feet away.
What gives?
What kind of range are you all getting with your remotes?

My trick to extend the range of the Lexus remote is to touch the metal part of the key/remote to the metal band of my watch. I can lock and unlock about 50 to 100 feet away. If you do not have metal band watch touch the remote to anything metal that you have on hand (ie: belt buckle, pen, etc.). It is interesting how it extends the range of the remote.

I may have to swap the battery.

i just touch my chin and lock
EDIT: the real question is it the transponder on the key that lacks the strength to send signals far (i doubt it) or is the reciever on the car lacking reception range? so im thinking if its the reciever on the car can we possilbly do a mod to extend its reception.... come on some of u hard core DIYers can do this. where is the freaking reciever on the car i'll make it get better range

the chin trick...
i do the chin trick but it doesnt extend my range very far... the funny thing is... my cousin can do it and it extends to about 40 feet... when i do it, it goes about an extra 10-15 feet.... maybe i got too much jelly in the chin if you get my drift...
ehh.. if we ever do a range extension mod with the remote..i'd be glad to be a part of it... but im getting my viper alarm and remote start done in december... so i don't think i'd need to do it...

Pretty sure, according to the repair manual.
I think the receiver in the GS is weaker or there are obstructions. The IS uses the same key on the same frequency and get much further ranges. You could actually program an IS key to open the GS doors and vice versa(for those with multiple cars).

Yes, I believe the IS has the longest range.
I can easily unlock/lock the IS from 50 yards away, without any chin or metal touching trick.
Can't say the same thing for the LS though.........
