Air Flow Smell
guys,
once i parked my car outside and it's raining most of the day. when i came back and set the airflow to be 'outside' (i.e., outside air was coming in; no A/C), I smelled something unpleasant (wet cloth smell). I thought it's only for the area but when I drove around with this setting, I could smell it. The smell went away as soon as I set the A/C ON.
I am guessing the moisture from the rain could have caused this..
any suggestion how I can get rid or avoid it in the future?

Air sent through with the A/C on gets dried out, so any damp/musty odor is usually gone by the time it comes out of the vent unless you just turned the car on in which case sometimes it smells a little regardless.
That's why our climate control systems leave the A/C on even in the winter time... to kee the air dry, unless it's already dry enough (which is rare here in tennessee, even in the winter).
The solution is just to let your climate control do its thing... don't force the A/C off.

get some Lysol Anti-Bacterial Disinfectant spray, turn your fan on full blast (NO AC) with the vents open to the outside air...go to the outside of your car and spray on top of the vent located near the winshield wipers... itll suck in the spray and clean some of the vent....and give you a pleasant Lemon Scent... not a permanent fix but definately works

Did you check your air conditioner filter (in the glove box)? I remember reading a post a while back where someone had a dead mouse in the filter that caused quite a stink. I'm not suggesting that you have a dead mouse in there, but you could have some sort of foreign object that's causing the smell.

yeah the lysol trick works great..just gotta keep doing it every couple weeks or so
I do this from time to time in my mom's pathfinder as she smokes with the windows closed and the smell lingers.

Funny what time will do to your memory. I did a search for "dead mouse" and it was actually me who posted the original story about the dead mouse in the air filter! After reading my post, I remembered that it happened to a guy here at work who also has a GS. He has no idea how the mouse got there, but it really did happen.
