brake warning light, need help
I have 45000 miles on my car right now. When im driving the brake warning light comes on, stays on sometimes, turns off. I tried releasing the parking brake to see if its down a little bit and its not. When I press the brake pedal the light will turn on till I get to a complete stop then it turns off. I mean its just very random. I can be going on the freeway and without even pressing the brakes it'll just turn on. I was told by the dealership that if my brakes were wearing out to the point they need to be changed it would squeak alot. they haven't made any noise whatsoever. I was wondering before I take it to the dealer and hear there excuses. If anyone knows whats the cause of this? I dont want to get hussled by the dealer saying I need to change brake pads if I dont have to.

As part of your 45K service you SHOULD check your pads. Likely the front ones are close to shot. Your problem with the light is caused by low brake fluid level in the reservoir. As the pads wear the pistons are pushed farther out and hold more fluid. Just bring the level up to max and the problem should go away but, DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE BRAKE PADS SOON.

I had the exact same problem on my 01 430. Follow the instructions in your owner's manual for refilling the brake fluid and you will be fine. Mine apparently was down only a few ounces and it was enough to set off the low fluid warning which is probably what you are experiencing. When the car comes to a stop, the system is basically equalized, thus the light goes off.
