Hey, I'm curious what the stock rwhp is on a GS400. Also for the GS430. Did any one dyno their car?
Also curious how much you gain at the wheels with say a Swift Racing combo ecu/intake at the wheels or any other aftermarket upgrade (exhaust..etc...AFC-II)

Some of our guys have dyno'd at around 245+ rwhp with the intake/ecu.

Don't recall what stock is. Probably something a little less than that.

for some reason the number 238 always floats around in my head so 245 with Intake sounds feasible

ok found it....stock 2002 gs430 dynoed no mods was 235rwhp and 252 rwt...

than he added the borla exhaust got a whole 1/2 of rwhp out of it...

when he added the srt intake combined with the borlas he already had installed he did 262rwhp and 287rwt ....27rwhp added with the combo...

here is the link...

Default Curious

OKay..the engine HP on a 92-95 SC400 is rated at 250hp. A stock GS400 from 98-2000 is 300hp
so then DYNO rwhp for an SC400 is rated at 175rwhp. A stock GS400 is 230rwhp.??

So the engines have a 55 hp difference at the wheels? that seems AWFULLY large.
I have an intake/ecu on my SC4 that puts me in the 220rwhp range and am putting in short headers and a new exhaust system which should help me get into 230hp or more territory. So I'd STILL be far behind from a modified or stock GS4

Hmmm... it doesn't seem to add up.

Also if there's any stock or modified GS4s or GS430s in the area. I'd love to meet w/u guys after my exhaust/headers are put in. DYNO is one thing..but I'd like to see on the road how much of a difference it makes. That's more a sign of things. If GS4s still run away after 60 than the mod is not doing enough =)

243 hp to the wheels of a 300 horsepower GS4???

That's a parasitic driveline loss of 19 percent! That's pretty bad! I wonder if the GS4's driveline is just really inefficient from all the vibration absorbtion techniques they use, or if the 300 horsepower rating is actually overrated from the factory?

Most manual transmission cars have a 10-14% loss, and most automatics have a 12-17% loss.

I wanna say that your driveline loss numbers are a little on the optimistic side.

My experience from the dyno comes to about 15% on manuals and 20% on autos. The fact that we have a 5spd vs a 4spd auto and that we are rwd vs fwd will probably contribute to the slightly higher numbers.

Look at it this way, Domestic V-8's are usually even more underpowered than we are (and they're usually bigger too). The GS4 stock or modded is not weak by any definition. It needs even more HP IMO from factory since most of us can easily get 25-50 hp w/o sacrificing any driveability. Lexus should take note and make more in the 350hp range from factory with simple ecu, intake, and exhaust mods.
