Default Installing cup holder

My cupholder broke again...what a suprise. big thumbs down to that.

Last time i used super glue, which wasnt so super cuz it broke.

JB WELD time. Those clips are welded on tehre STRONG, the only problem if i stick the cup holder in tehre, i'm afraid its going to snap at a weaker point somewhere. Is there a way to disassemble the armrest and just sit it in there??

Can someone post a pic of what the paper clip is supposed to look like when sitting on the cub holder?

Default sold my car

Sorry I do not have my car anymore so no photos of the modified cup holder. Do follow the instructions that are listed here on the CL forums and you should be fine. Just keep in mind that once fixed, the paper clip will occasionally slip and will have to be re-adjusted/bent in order to work properly.

Overall, its a great fix and helped me to use the cupholder while I owned a 1st gen.

Tools used for this job...

Disassembled cup holder...

After JB weld was applied...

Waolaaa...The finished product...

Messy, but it gets the job done. Be sure to apply enough JB Weld but not too much cause once it hardens it's a wrap, or in other words, no going back!

Once I got the paper clips bonded well enough I put the cup holder in and used the needle nose pliers to adjust the height of the hook of the paper clip.

Also, the paper clip could not fit around the pillar thing in my cup holder. Not a big issue but thought I would mention it.

brilliant...

thanks lexusfits! no one should ever have this problem again!

$5 for JB weld, .05 cents for paperclips vs $145+ at the dealership for a new one.

the choice is yours

in the reverse proportion, how do I take out my cupholder from my 02 ES300? Just bought it used the other day and the bloody cupholders won't come out! I managed to get them out once by smacking the cupholder quickly but now won't eject at all. Help!

Cool diagram and instructions. The 1GS broken cup holder problem isn't a matter of if it will happen, but of when.
