KTS_GS3, congrats on 100k. Also good to see the ECT PWR is ON. I don't know why you guys want to see pics, I haven't done anything yet, but here you go! Oh, while I'm posting a pic, how do you think it would look with these wheels?

Question Reliable??

I've wanted a Lexus and now I'm thinking about a first generation GS 300. I'm only 15 now, but when I get a car it can't be costly. I want to know if the car is reliable and is it good for a first car? Is the insurance high? The things that I look for in a car, for my first car, are looks, passenger room, power, reliablity, insurance costs, stereo system, and expense for repairs. Basically will the car last?

Cool you're set with the GS

Do this: try to get one with the nakamichi audio, otherwise this car looses massive points on audio because it's a pain to upgrade the standard Pioneer system. You want lots of passenger room and the car to be fast, the GS balances that pretty well but leans more towards room than speed.

Reliability: You won't see engine or tranny problems on a well-maintained GS - the proof is here. But all the little things on a 10 year old car are unavoidable. MAKE SURE the rear main seal isn't leaking before you buy, that's a pain in the a$$.

Repairs aren't bad but compared to domestics they are high. Insurance shouldn't be a problem but you can always call them with a list of your favorite cars and they will quote you prices.

My first car was a '72 Cutlass in the 1990s. Now THAT is a reliability problem. Fun to drive, tho.

94 - 183,800... and judging by the chips in the front end, plenty of highway miles... had the cupholder problem, but the dealer fixed that free... have the window trim problem, dealer tried to fix that for free, but they didn't do it correctly... somesort of traction problem, but of course it didn't start until a couple days after I drove it off the lot... damn I love this car.

Everyone else- be honest, does anyone else that has more than 90k (like I now do) keep their odometer on the "trip" setting?? My lil brother got in the car and noticed it the other day, he was like, "your mileage must be getting high, because you got your odo on trip!!"

No doubt, I put mine on the trip the first day i got it and the mileage was low then..... it isn't anyone's business but mine how many miles i have. I tell you guys cuz i probably won't ever see you. I love digital odometers! If i had to look at high mileage nbrs everyday like you do in Acuras and other cars i would have sold mine a long time ago

Visit every once in a while and thought I'd post.
1996 GS300 Gold 61544k miles
Got it in 2000 with 44k from a 2nd had type lot. Guy must go to auctions and buy up nice L's BMW's, Mercs because the lot is kind of cramped but full of goodies. Turns out this Lex of my wifes was the dads of a fellow High School classmate that I knew! Must be mostly high way miles since the interior is in excellent shape for the desert here. Old ones never moisturized the leather so I do often and caught it in time. Any rec on hide food?
