Default Damn it was time,

Little frustrated, i do most of my own work when i have time. Some of you know i have a big boosted IS300 and currently it stripped all the way to the crank. As life happens i have not been able to give it the attention it needs, and parts money goes to this and that.

I bought the ol' gs300 as a daily driver because i know my way around the car. This car has all of its records and 240k on the clock. The second waterpump gasket and pump are failing after i replaced the entire cooling system last summer. If i do it its 300 in parts (Timing belt, tensioner, cam seals, might as well do it at the same time. Well my trusted mechanic does all of the work i dont have time to do, because he does it for a living. He is charging me $ 550 and thats parts included. Very fair in my eyes.

What I am pissed about is the rack and pinion is leaking power steering fluid, bad enough that i had to add a bottle of fluid twice this last week and i can see it leaking out from the rack. This is not a easy job, but not rocket science. I know the lifetime part is $300 with the core replacement. Even the OEM one is around $600.00. Well he wants to charge me $ 800 plus a ton in labor. I think the total was $ 2200.00 all for everything. He would not let me bring in my own parts which is BS, i told him you order them hell ill pay 20% over, nope he wont do it. They are going to do my alignment and everything else but i know he knows he pissed me off. Why would you take the chance on a 20 year old customer, to make a good profit on a rack and pin. Anyway good news is ill have it back and i know i can get a ton more miles out of it. The motors are bullet proof if you take care of em, pretty sure all the electronics will go before the drive train, chassis, motor, and trans lol. Just wanted to vent -

Anyone else on here had to replace their rack and pinion yet? 240k garaged miles, not surprised it went out, was still driving fine no noises or erratic steering, but leaking fluid and i didnt want to burn up the new power steering pump.

Is it just a hose that needs replacement?

I would find a junk yard car and rip it out from the bottom!
